Gordon Barlow — UX Designer

I am a user advocate. I design, develop, and own the user experience to serve the user best. I enjoy creating solutions and simplifying processes. My creative thinking, honest disposition, and persistent drive to unite all in a common vision shows in the teams I work with and in the results I produce. I take joy in converting complex, difficult experiences into clear, simple flows that users don’t even have to think about—they just use.

RECOMMENDATIONS for work at Novell

“Gordon has this incredible ability to step back from a specific UX interaction and consider the entire context of the interaction to propose the best solution to the problem. Whereas certain designers are content to just tweak colors and pixels, Gordon likes to ask, ‘Why is the user here?’, ‘What are they trying to do?’, and ‘How can we make it easier or more natural for the user?’ As an engineer, Gordon's approach would sometimes force me to rethink (and even re-code) certain interactions but it always lead to a better experience for the user.” – Daniel Christensen, Software Engineer, Novell, Inc.

“Gordon is an exceptional designer with a great eye for detail. He is great to work with and can be counted on to deliver excellent results in a timely manner. I have always been impressed by Gordon's ability to understand the design needs of our products completely and provide great input back to management and engineering to improve the user experience. Gordon would be an excellent asset for any company looking for a top designer that is personable and works well with others.” – Brad Dayley, Consulting Software Engineer, Novell, Inc.

“I worked with Gordon for three years on various projects. I was the project manager and Gordon was the User Experience (UX) lead on those projects.

Gordon did a great job in helping us improve the look-and-feel and user-interaction for products that have millions of end-users. Gordon is talented, deadline-conscious, and a very fun and pleasing person to work with. I enjoyed our association immensely.” – Tom Urquhart, Project Manager, Novell, Inc.

“Gordon is a passionate designer. I am amazed by his ability to jump between projects and contribute in a significant manner. Gordon has helped me in building good UI solutions and I would recommend Gordon for any UX position.” – Rajesh Anandalai, Software Engineer, Novell, Inc.
