I hired and managed Gordon while I was at Softwise. He was hired to be the principle UX architect of our next generation point of sale system designed for both a web and desktop experience. Gordon tirelessly worked directly with the developers, business owners and end users to design a system that was both user friendly and developer friendly. His design approach decreased development time by 35% as he incorporated a structure where any design changes were completed with in the development cycle so that the developers could utilize the his designs faster with little work on their end. It’s been nice to have a User Experience Expert who knows how to prototype in HTML, CSS, and AngularJS. Gordon designs with responsive design concepts in mind, fully knowing what is possible and what is not, with actual pages written in HTML and CSS, as opposed to a designer who creates mockups in Photoshop or Illustrator (he can design in Photoshop/Illustrator if needed as well). He can add interactions to the designs using AngularJS, which allows decision makers the ability to interact with a prototype, assuring that the design has been vetted and the interactions understood so developers won’t have change request surprises when they hook up webservices and provide the finished product. He encapsulates functionality of his prototype designs into directives for clean AngularJS component organization. Gordon knows how to design and organize CSS with the big picture in mind, with attention to details like minimizing HTTP requests, using sprite SVG’s. He is very focused on the user and understands that software is being created for ease of use by users, and that the success of the product is dependent upon users success in using the product; hence, his influence makes sure that usability is not sacrificed by the design-illiterate, structured data, webservice developers. Gordon would make an excellent addition to your team blending the roles of UX designer and Front-end developer, being able to understand and communicate concepts in both realms.

One example I love is when he added a feature to our new product that allows a user to work in a Word doc and collaborate with other users about it and never leave the Word application, everyone was excited, and impressed about this new feature and the value it added to the product.
